I did it.
I joined Facebook. I have been resisting for a long time. I was very concerned about getting addicted to it. I hear it's like a drug. It's a gateway drug. Next thing you know, I will be getting a smart phone and adding a media package to my cell phone plan...
Anyhoo, I just decided that I was tired of not knowing what is going on with my friends and now that I stay at home with the Beckster, I feel like it is my outlet. I can "talk" to other adults without having to leave my house. I can watch my friends' babies grow up even though I can't run over to their house. I can connect with people that I only get to see once a year or even less than that.
We will see how it goes. I may have to give myself a time limit each day.

The Beach
So the beach went much better than I expected. We didn't see the actual beach a whole lot (in fact, 2 of the 6 days there we didn't even make it out of our room because it was so hot), but we still relaxed, ate a lot, and had lots of family time with our family of 3 and my extended family.
Ready for the beach in a giant, floppy, sun-blocking hat
Napping with Daddy (by the way, Beck loved the couch in our unit. He would stare and converse with it for several minutes at a time. I mean who wouldn't love lots of white anchors on a grand background of blue)
Waking up with cousin Oliver. Oliver joined us for a couple of afternoon naps while his mommy and sister went outside.
Walking on the beach. This usually turned into a nap which was continued poolside under an umbrella.
And to think...next year we will be chasing him and trying to keep him from eating sand and drinking ocean water. {sigh}

This Child...
is like night and day.
kept me up from 11:45-3:45 on Wednesday night.
would only finally go to sleep and stay that way with me on the couch...and only for about 3 hours.
screamed all day in the car on Thursday while I had to run errands.
slept from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. Thursday night.
fell back asleep at 7am.
fell asleep in the car on the way to drop him off with Grand-Boo.
fell asleep in the car on the way home from Grand-Boo's.
Go figure.

bwe-2 months
weight: 12 lbs. 14 oz.
length: 25 inches
stats: 78th percentile for weight, 99th percentile for height/length!
Beck is starting to have some sort of sleeping schedule at night. He has been sleeping from about 10-3 or 4 and then taking another 4 oz. bottle. Then he wakes up again around 6 or 7. It is the next bottle that is baffling us. He only wants like 2 oz. I am so thankful for the sleep that I am trying to not worry about the eating thing. I guess he is just full.
Beck is smiling and cooing alot these days. Sometimes he and I will make noises back and forth with each other for what seems like 5 minutes (it's probably only about 20 seconds, but it seems like a long time). He is very aware of his surroundings. As long as people are not talking over each other, he will find the face that matches the voice he is hearing. He does like to make sure he can see Mommy or Daddy when he is being held by someone else. He is better about being in the car awake. However, he will cry and cry when he is sleepy. Yesterday he cried for about 40 minutes of a one-hour car trip. It's not a blood-curdling cry, but you can tell that he is worn out. He loves ceiling fans and lights, even if they are turned off. He has discovered the television so we are having to turn that off during feedings and other times as well. He loves mirrors and will smile and coo at himself for a long time. He is spending more time playing independently on his floor mat. He loves to be read to and will often listen to 6 or 7 books being read to him at a time. He enjoyed his first swim, which thrills my soul because I love to be in the water. Today, he had his 2-month shots. He cried the most pitiful cry when the needles went in and his face turned a deep, dark red. He did, however, calm down as soon as Daddy picked him up and popped his pacifier in. We are starting to see more of his personality come out and he is very active.
making a splash
Some very sweet friends of ours have a wonderful pool and we have an open invitation to visit them which makes them even more wonderful people! Beck took his first dip last Wednesday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Kitchen Assistant and Sweet Conversations
Interesting fact about the Beckster: he HATES his bouncy seat. He screams like he is in the most awful pain when you begin to put him in it. He absolutely LOVES his high chair seat. Go figure.
This afternoon he woke up earlier than I expected him to from his nap. So I strapped him into his high chair seat and put him in the kitchen with me.
I explained every step of the dish I was making for dinner. I told him the ingredients I was using, how much I was putting in, and how much I thought Daddy would love this meal (nailed that last one).
Once I put the dish in the oven, I explained that the next step was crucial and it is called "cleaning up the kitchen". You always want to do as much of this as possible before you eat because after you eat, you just want to sit and bask in your full-belly-ness. So we (I) sang the clean-up song. Beck liked to do his version of raising the roof while I sang. He apparently takes cleaning up very seriously, as evidenced by his serious face.
Yesterday, while I was feeding Beck a bottle I decided to tell him his story so far. I told him about his birth mother and how she loved him so much. I explained how God knew that he would grow in his birth mother's belly and that he would be our son. He locked eyes with me the whole time. While I had his attention I also shared the Gospel with him. I read on another mother's blog how she did that with all of her children and I thought that it sounded like an awesome thing. I, of course, got emotional explaining how God sent his son ("just like you are mommy and daddy's son") to earth and how He, and only He, had to die to pay for all of our sins. I told him how Jesus wanted Beck to know Him as a Savior and as Lord of his life, and that mommy and daddy would spend every day teaching him about Jesus and living out our faith. I know that he is just a little babe, only 8 weeks old today, but Jeff and I decided a long time ago that teaching our children about God and the Gospel was the most important thing we would ever do as parents. Now sharing my faith with my son is part of our day, and I pray for his little heart every day.
This and That
We took a trip to see these two cuties and their parents.
Camryn and Ella
We playing a rousing round of peek-a-boo.
Some friends came to visit us...well mostly Beck.
Grayson, Claire, and Beck
We had another baby shower hosted by Beck's aunts and grandmothers.
Carrie, Gigi, me, Mimi, Bekah, Elizabeth, and ClaraRose
My mom used my baby cup to hold the tooth picks...nice touch.
Beck met lots of important people who prayed for him and couldn't wait to meet him. Weezie was among the crowd patiently waiting her turn to hold him.
